Voice Over ADR Stereo Approval 5.1 over IP



For radio or TV commercials, it is important that talent is immediately accessible and many serious Voice Over artists will have a home studio equipped with an ISDN codec.

Typically the Voice Over artist will connect to a facility, which has been previously recommended by the Advertisement Agency. In the case of some larger agencies, there may be a production studio in-house. A script will be sent to the artist and the director will ask to have it read through several times with varying speed or emphasis. The whole process may only take 45 minutes.

Low latency is fundamental to the entire process. Using ISDN codecs should replicate the intimacy of Director and Artist working together in the same building, separated only by a glass window. Any latency introduced will compromise this requirement.

For Voice Over work, the preferred audio codec is a unit that supports all popular coding algorithms, similarly with the Advertisement Agencies.

Some Artists and Agencies will try to avoid ISDN costs and record a .WAV file and email the file as an attachment. While this may be appropriate for some applications, there is no possibility of a Director influencing the individual “takes”.
